Footworks Dance Studio and Urban Dance Studio open in Downtown Detroit
Footworks and Urban Dancers are expanding their studios in Downtown and the East side of Detroit, announcing plans for a new mixed-use space and retail center.
A mixed-used retail space will be built by the two studios at the former Footworks building on Woodward Avenue and Detroit Riverfront, a building formerly owned by the city of Detroit.
The building will become a mixed-income, residential, and commercial space that will include a rooftop garden.
The space will also include a restaurant, retail space, and a new rooftop bar and lounge.
The two studios will expand their footprint by 10% in Downtown, where they have an office and one-story warehouse.
The expansion includes an additional 1,200 square feet of retail space and a 1,600 square foot studio, according to a news release.
The expansion will also create a new, two-story building that will be an affordable apartment building that is currently under construction in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, the release states.
It’s an expansion that will allow the studio space to serve a more diverse clientele, which includes people of all ages and backgrounds.
The addition of the additional space will make the space more convenient for residents to visit, the news release states, adding that footworks is committed to creating an inclusive space for all residents of Downtown and East Detroit.
